Née au Pérou, Mary Jiménez Freeman-Morris est une réalisatrice qui a d’abord étudié l’architecture à Lima avant de suivre les cours de l’INSAS en Belgique. Elle a enseigné la réalisation à Bruxelles, à Cuba et en Suisse. Actuellement, elle est responsable du laboratoire des cinéastes de Sound Image Culture (SIC) à Bruxelles, où elle soutient les jeunes talents. Son premier long métrage, 21:12 PIANO BAR, a remporté le Prix des cinémas d’art et d’essai. Son film DU VERBE AIMER a été projeté au Forum de la Berlinale en 1985. Depuis, elle a réalisé une douzaine de films, sélectionnés dans plusieurs festivals prestigieux tels que Toronto, San Sebastian, Cinéma du réel, Montréal et Berlin.
Born in Peru, Mary Jiménez Freeman-Morris is a filmmaker who first studied architecture in Lima before attending INSAS in Belgium. She has taught filmmaking in Brussels, Cuba and Switzerland. She is currently in charge of the filmmakers’ laboratory at Sound Image Culture (SIC) in Brussels, where she supports young talent. Her first feature film, 21:12 PIANO BAR, won the Prix des cinémas d’art et d’essai. Her film DU VERBE AIMER was screened at the Berlinale Forum in 1985. Since then, she has made a dozen films, selected for prestigious festivals including Toronto, San Sebastian, Cinéma du réel, Montreal and Berlin.
