En 1982, pendant l’occupation israélienne de Beyrouth, le Centre de Recherche Palestinien est pillé puis bombardé par Tsahal. C’est tout un pan de la culture palestinienne qui est saisi par l’ennemi. Dans un geste de contre-récit, Kamal Aljafari redonne vie à ces archives filmées des années 20 aux années 80 à travers un travail impressionnant de sonorisation et de montage, entre devoir de mémoire et détournement. Complétées par des archives cinématographiques ou télévisuelles, ces images exposent à la fois les humiliations et spoliations quotidiennes subies par le peuple palestinien ainsi que la réappropriation coloniale de ces mémoires : certaines scènes tout à fait banales de la vie quotidienne sont ainsi associées au terrorisme par les autorités israéliennes. À travers ce dispositif aussi politique que fascinant, Kamal Aljafari nous donne accès à l’histoire de son peuple.
In 1982, during the Israeli occupation of Beirut, the Palestinian Research Centre was looted and then bombed by the Tsahal. A whole section of Palestinian culture was seized by the enemy. In a counter-narrative gesture, Kamal Aljafari gives new life to these archives filmed from the 20s to the 80s through an impressive work of sound and editing, between duty to remember and misappropriation. Complemented by film and television archives, these images expose both the daily humiliations and despoilments suffered by the Palestinian people and the colonial reappropriation of these memories : certain completely banal scenes from everyday life are associated with terrorism by the Israeli authorities. Through this political and fascinating device, Kamal Aljafari gives us access to the history of his people.
